Discover who you ARE…

When we focus on someone’s occupation, as a definition of identity,
our self-esteem remains fragile and weak.

Often, when we meet people, the first question is: What’s your name? (we usually always
forget the name). Then follows: What do you DO? (we usually always remember this).
Because this allows us to judge whether what they DO, meets our requirements.

1) Is this person worth continuing a conversation with…
2) Is this person worth keeping in contact with…
3) Is this person worthy?

When we value others on what they DO, we also tell others to do the same to us…
“Judge me on what I do, not who I am. I am only worthy through what I do.”

And what we DO, has no correlation to who we ARE.
Who we ARE, is much much more than what we DO.

Who ARE you, without your job, career, status, car, house, suit, costume, parents, kids, partner, and all the rest of the things that help make you feel worthy?  If you feel you mount to nothing without all these things, then maybe it’s time to stop asking people “What do you DO?” and start connecting with people from who you ARE.

When we focus on who we ARE with each other, we will always empower ourselves and those around us. We will always look for a ‘connection’ with others as apposed to looking to be ‘connected’. Therefore, we will value ourselves and others.
This, is the way to a high self-esteem.

As an exercise, when you meet someone new, refrain from asking what they do, or sharing with them what you do, and see how it feels. Your discomfort is very telling… See how long you can go without knowing. And whether this changes the way, in which you interact with them… Ultimately, how we feel about others… is a reflection on how we feel about ourselves.
Which is always, good to know…
